Father James Stephen Behrens, O.C.S.O. spent most of his youth in northern New Jersey. He was ordained a priest in May 1974 and served as a parish priest for the Archdiocese

of Newark for twenty years. He became interested in and attracted to the aspect of community life, so in July 1994, he moved to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, Georgia. He has held a wide range of jobs while at the monastery – working in their bonsai department, sorting incoming mail, serving as director of their retreat house and various other odds and ends like driving the elderly monks to their doctor appointments. In his spare time, Fr. James does a lot of writing and loves to dabble in photography, especially black and white format.

Father James began writing for publication in 1989 and his essays have appeared in the National Catholic Reporter, Living Faith, Notre Dame Magazine, The Liguorian, Saint Anthony Messenger and other journals and periodicals. ACTA Publications in Chicago has published several of his books – Grace Revisited: Epiphanies from a Trappist Monk; Be Gentle, Be Faithful: Daily Meditations for Busy Christians and Portraits of Grace: Images and Words from the Monastery of the Holy Spirit. His photographs also appear in A Planet of Grace: Images and Words from Biosphere One written by Bernadette McCarver Snyder.

BEREAVEMENT MASS

 AND RECEPTION

The All Souls Day Bereavement Mass will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017

at 7 PM

All parishioners are welcome to attend to remember and pray for our faithful

departed.Please arrive early to sign the bereavement book and to place any

mementos of your loved one on the steps in front of the altar. The service will be bilingual. After Mass there will be a reception with light refreshments in the Parish Hall.

 Operation Christmas Child begins soon

It is that time of year again. Members of our AHG troop will be in the Gathering Area giving out boxes on 11/4 and 11/5 for Operation Christmas Child, but you don't have to wait! You can fill any shoebox with goodies for children overseas and be ready for the collection on Nov 12 and 13. For more information, go to www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/pack-a-shoe-box/. Don't forget to print a label and include your donation to cover shipping!

AMERICAN HERITAGE GIRLS FUNDRAISER

 AHG Troop NC0146 is having its Fall Fundraiser! This year we are partnering with Giving Bean Coffee, which sells delicious coffee, tea, and cocoa. Proceeds will fund our troop's activities for the year. Girls from the troop will be in the Gathering Area after masses on Oct 27-28. Thank you for your support
