Volunteering at SJN and in the Diocese of Charlotte

Thank you for volunteering for ministry here at St. John Neumann! Each of us is called to serve the Lord, and His Church, with the gifts and talents bestowed on us by our loving Father. We will certainly be blessed by your ministry here among our parish family.

As you know, it is critical to ensure a safe environment for all those to whom we minister. To that end, we comply with all Diocesan policies that help us to meet that need. At the beginning of volunteer service, every volunteer is required to provide the following:

1. Volunteer Profile Form

2. Background Check Form

3. Review and provide a signed acknowledgement form - Sexual Misconduct Policy and Code of Ethics

4. If you are volunteering with children or vulnerable adults, you must complete the VIRTUS course, either in person. On the VIRTUS website, there is a list of available classes, as well as the online course. You are also required to remain current on monthly bulletins that help all of us stay aware of current issues, trends, and findings in providing a safe environment for children and vulnerable adults. You must register for this at virtusonline.org.

5.Volunteers who drive any vehicle in the course of their volunteer service to transport others, or even to run an errand on behalf of a ministry, are required to complete a Request for Approved Driver Status form, submit a copy of their driver's license so a current motor vehicle record check (MVR) may be peformed, and complete online defensive driver training courses through the Catholic Mutual Group Website.

As you complete the volunteer process online, you will be guided through each of these steps. The information you submit online will be available to and reviewed by select church office personnel only. If you do not wish to complete the process online, you can download the entire Volunteer Packet, print out the pages you need to complete and turn them in to the Parish Office.

We hope you will understand that completion of these few steps is necessary prior to the start of your volunteer service, and that your continued involvement is contingent upon staying current with these requirements.

It is a true blessing to serve the Lord! Thank you for answering His call and for your dedicated service in the spreading of the Gospel.
