To my Dear St. John Neumann Family…

We have all received the call of God in our lives.  That was the mission that the Lord gave to his Apostles.  He told them at his Ascension: “Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”  That is what we find Paul and Barnabas doing in the Acts of the Apostles this week.  Some accepted their testimony and others did not.  It is a trait of our human nature to judge the information that we receive.  Our biases and preconceptions often act as barriers to receiving the fullness of the truth when it is revealed to us.  The Jews in Antioch had a preconception of who the Messiah is.  They found it difficult to believe what Paul and Barnabas revealed to them.  For them and for all of us, when there is some element of the faith that we find difficult to believe, it is a sign of our need to further conversion.  It is a time of prayer for all of us.  Those who have faith in the fullness of the teaching of the Lord need to pray for those who are struggling with their faith.  Those who are struggling with some belief should pray that God send to them the conversion to believe all that the Lord has revealed to his Church.

Spanish: Todos hemos recibido el llamado de Dios en nuestras vidas. Esa fue la misión que el Señor encomendó a sus apóstoles. Les dijo en su Ascensión: «Por tanto, vayan y hagan discípulos de todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, enseñándoles a guardar todo lo que les he mandado». Eso es lo que Pablo y Bernabé hacen en los Hechos de los Apóstoles esta semana. Algunos aceptaron su testimonio y otros no. Es propio de nuestra naturaleza humana juzgar la información que recibimos. Nuestros prejuicios y preconcepciones a menudo actúan como barreras para recibir la plenitud de la verdad cuando se nos revela. Los judíos de Antioquía tenían una idea preconcebida de quién era el Mesías. Les costaba creer lo que Pablo y Bernabé les revelaron. Para ellos y para todos nosotros, cuando hay algún elemento de la fe que nos cuesta creer, es señal de nuestra necesidad de profundizar nuestra conversión. Es un momento de oración para todos. Quienes tienen fe en la plenitud de la enseñanza del Señor deben orar por quienes tienen dificultades con su fe. Quienes tienen dificultades con alguna creencia deben orar para que Dios les conceda la conversión para creer todo lo que el Señor ha revelado a su Iglesia.
