To my Dear St. John Neumann Family…

We, like the people of Israel, are a people awaiting the coming of the Lord.  The prophet Malachi speaks of those who are awaiting the coming to the Lord to the temple.  He then gives them a subtle reminder to be prepared for the day of his coming.  He wrote, “who will endure the day of his coming?”  Simeon and Anna in today’s Gospel represent the people who await his coming.  Simeon has been promised to see the Messiah before death.  So, the Gospel tells us he lived a devout life in preparation of the gift that he was to receive from the Lord.  When the Lord comes to him, he expresses his joy and faith with the canticle which he blesses the Lord.  Anna shows her gratitude that the prayers she recited day and night were fulfilled by God.  We need the same longing for our God as Simeon and Anna had.  We have been especially blessed that each day we can receive the Lord into the temple of our body.  Through the Eucharist that we receive he is bestowing on us the grace to endure his second coming, that we might receive the redemption he came to bring to all his people.

Nosotros, como el pueblo de Israel, somos un pueblo que espera la venida del Señor. El profeta Malaquías habla de aquellos que esperan la venida del Señor al templo. Luego les da un sutil recordatorio para que estén preparados para el día de su venida. Él escribió: “¿Quién soportará el día de su venida?” Simeón y Ana en el Evangelio de hoy representan al pueblo que espera su venida. A Simeón se le ha prometido ver al Mesías antes de morir. Entonces, el Evangelio nos dice que vivió una vida devota en preparación del don que iba a recibir del Señor. Cuando el Señor viene a él, expresa su alegría y fe con el cántico en el que bendice al Señor. Ana muestra su gratitud porque las oraciones que recitaba día y noche fueron cumplidas por Dios. Necesitamos el mismo anhelo por nuestro Dios que tenían Simeón y Ana. Hemos sido especialmente bendecidos porque cada día podemos recibir al Señor en el templo de nuestro cuerpo. Por medio de la Eucaristía que recibimos, Él nos concede la gracia de soportar su segunda venida, para que recibamos la redención que Él vino a traer a todo su pueblo.
