To my Dear St. John Neumann Family…

The Lord told his disciples with regard to false prophets: “By their fruits you will know them.” We could say others will know if we are true disciples of the Lord by our fruits as well. So the Prophet Isaiah this week lists for us many of the corporal works of mercy that the Lord asks us to share with those in need. The Lord gave us this example himself. He came to serve us in our need of salvation and asked us to do the same. The Gospel tells us if we do this, then the light of virtue will shine in the world to others as the Lord has shed his light on us. It is by living our faith and doing what the Lord has asked us to do that we season the world with love and all the virtues. Seeing the light of Christ and being seasoned by the virtues that his disciples practice we call others into the light of Christ and out of the darkness of sin. Let us always reflect the light of Christ in the world by the way we live our lives.

El Señor les dijo a sus discípulos, refiriéndose a los falsos profetas: “Por sus frutos los conocerán”. Podríamos decir que los demás también sabrán si somos verdaderos discípulos del Señor por nuestros frutos. Esta semana, el profeta Isaías nos enumera muchas de las obras de misericordia corporales que el Señor nos pide que compartamos con los necesitados. El Señor mismo nos dio este ejemplo. Vino a servirnos en nuestra necesidad de salvación y nos pidió que hiciéramos lo mismo. El Evangelio nos dice que si hacemos esto, la luz de la virtud brillará en el mundo para los demás, así como el Señor ha derramado su luz sobre nosotros. Es viviendo nuestra fe y haciendo lo que el Señor nos ha pedido que sazonamos el mundo con amor y todas las virtudes. Al ver la luz de Cristo y ser transformados por las virtudes que practican sus discípulos, atraemos a otros a la luz de Cristo y los sacamos de la oscuridad del pecado. Que siempre reflejemos la luz de Cristo en el mundo a través de nuestra forma de vivir.
