SJN Support Groups

Make no mistake. There is a battle going on and it is for the souls of our children.

We chose Saint Monica for our intercessor, who never gave up on her son, Saint Augustine. And ultimately she led her son to choose the life of following Christ.

We all want the same for our children! Let us begin by being a strong and prayerful community here at St. John Newman. One that is in communion with Jesus and with the souls in Heaven and with the Communion of Saints (especially St Monica).

Lets us pray for our children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, for the kid next door that has fallen away from the church. Pray for the health of their  spiritual soul as well as the physical body. For any addictions or mental illness. Whatever the reason that is separating them from God.

Just as we need each other’s prayers, we also need each other’s friendship. We need Catholic friends to encourage us and support us in living as faithful parents; to help us with difficulties that we have in our family and community. This is a safe space to be able to unload and have that support that you need.. Come for a cup of coffee and make a new friend. We meet the 4th Wednesday of the month at 7:15 PM in classroom # 6.  Join us for support and prayer.

Message prayer requests with your name or anonymous. We will check messages daily and get the prayer requests out in Spanish and English. Please call Marilyn Schreiber at (704) 839-1087 or email at St.Monicasupport@4sjnc.org

Bereavement & Grief Support Group

(This is not a counseling or therapy group)

Do you need a safe space where you can come and join others that have lost a loved one?

Sometimes the loss is so hard to share with

others who don’t know what you’re going through. That is why at SJN we want to support you through your grief journey. Join us for support and fellowship. We meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:15 PM in classroom # 6.  Join us for support and fellowship. If you’ve lost someone you love, you probably feel empty, weighed down by heartbreak and sorrow.  But you don’t have to go through it alone.  Finding people who can listen, support, and help you cope makes a big difference.

I am asking also for volunteers!! Training provided.

Would you be willing to be a companion and support for someone who has lost a loved one? We are all called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. The role is to be there for a grieving member.

We will assign a person who has lost a loved one for you to check on. This will require a once a week call and bringing them comfort during the Holiday season.  If you’re interested please contact

Marilyn Schrieber at (704) 839-1087 or email at bereavement@4sjnc.org.
